Los
Nevados is a beautiful pueblito (small village) set
deep in the Andes and separated from Mérida by
the highest mountain in Venezuela, Pico Toro (4755m),
Pico Leon (4740), Pico Bolivar (5007m). Access is by
foot, by horse, or by 4 wheel drive vehicles. GUAMANCHI
EXPEDITIONS, C.A. settled a posada in Los Nevados since
August 1995 , it features 26 high quality beds, hot
water, hammocks on the 27 metre balcony, and stunning
views into the valley below.This is the single most
popular mountain tour we offer, and with good reason
- in just 3 days you pass through 4 distinct climatic
regions between 1600 metres and 4200 metres metres;
you travel by jeep, on a mule trail, and on foot; you
experience the traditional way of life of the Andean
people; and all this without the strain of heavy packs
and camping. This is a real mountain tour for (almost!)
all the family.
Day one :
The tour follows a circular route, beginning with a
4 to 5 hour jeep trip on an 'exciting' (ie. narrow with
sharp bends and steep inclines) road from Merida to
Los Nevados via El Morro. In rainy season (July - December)
the way is sometimes too difficult to pass and we have
to hike the last hour or so. You will have the afternoon
to have a small trek or the chance just to rest in one
of the hammocks. You will spend 1 night in Los Nevados
at POSADA GUAMANCHI.
Day two:
After a very good breakfast, you will be ready to go
for a 4 hours ride, going through the typical vegetation
of the Andes, from 2700 meters up to the 4200 meters.
After 2 hours walking down hill, you will arrive and
spend the night in a rustic farmhouse.
Day three:
4 – 5 hours downhill hiking through the cloudy
forest with a beautiful view of Merida and the Sierra
La Culata. We will pick you up by jeep in Mucunutan,
and welcome you in our office after a 40 min drive.
Important:
Different tours assume different levels of fitness,
ability, or experience. Some tours require a high degree
of physical stamina, others none at all. Two people
can go on the same tour - one will find it easy, another
exhausting. It is your responsibility to provide and
discuss all relevant health and other information with
Guamanchi Expeditions that may affect your ability to

- Tour with 2 persons : 60 $ per day, per person
- Tour with 3 -4 persons: 55 $ per day, per person
